This is Severe Weather Preparedness Week

This week the National Weather Service and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency are encouraging all Illinoisans to get prepared for severe weather.

Severe weather preparedness has four key steps:

  1. Stay informed. Know how to receive severe weather alerts
  2. Have an emergency plan. Designate safe places to seek shelter
  3. Prepare yourself and your home for an emergency. Know how to administer CPR, how to use a fire extinguisher, and how to turn off gas and electricity to your home
  4. Have an emergency supply kit. It should include such essentials as bottled water, non-perishable food, flashlights and batteries, extra clothing, medications, a radio and more.
